Abstract
A review is given on knowledge about surface oxidation, either spontaneously or purposely induced, together with the methods of alternate surface modifications which have been worked out to improve surface stability while preserving the photoluminescence. Most of the information for the modifications has been obtained using infrared spectroscopy.
