Abstract
The inverse scattering problem for electromagnetic waves in the resonance region was studied. The scatterer was distinguished from the background by a refractive index. It was found that mathematical justification of the method depended on the precise scattering mechanism. The existence of a weak solution to the interior transmission problem was proved. Numerical results showed that the linear sampling method could handle simultaneous reconstruction of both penetrable and non-penetrable scatterers.
