Abstract
We derive the exact relationship between the density and the divergence of the velocity field, including all nonlinear features, in the case of an infinitely small variance. The result is found to be very close to δν = 3Ω0.6/2 [1 - (1 + δ)2/3], where δν is the divergence of the velocity field (in units of H0). However, possible departures may appear due to the smoothing procedures used in practical determinations of this relationship. This correction is specified for the quadratic term and is seen to be small.
