Abstract

We propose a review of works dealing with detailed kinetic models of four pure explosives (TNT, RDX, HMX and NTO) and show that it is rightful to bring together thermal and shock decompositions for these explosives. Then, we use experimental results based on initiation from sudden heating to validate a detailed kinetic model from the literature and propose a macroscopic reaction rate driven by temperature for a melt-cast explosive, consistent with characteristic time involved during shock to detonation transitions.
