Abstract

This paper introduces a simulation framework for the investigation of in-flight ice accretion under parametric uncertainty. The focus of this work is to extend current uncertainty quantification approaches to the ice accretion phenomenon for Supercooled Large Droplets conditions. Forward uncertainty propagation techniques are implemented to establish uncertainty estimates associated with numerical predictions. Different test cases are presented with the aim of reproducing real experiments carried out at the NASA’s Glenn Icing Research Tunnel (IRT) facility. Both Appendix C and Appendix O cases are reproduced and their results compared. Sensitivity analysis highlights the dependency of the targeted model outputs with respect to the different uncertain inputs for different icing conditions.
