Abstract

An experimental investigation of the wavelength selection and the evolution of rolling-grain ripples was performed. A law for the selection of the unstable wavelength under the latter constraint was proposed. The morphological evolution of the ripple during the coarsening process was also discussed. The results indicate that the initial wavelength depends on the amplitude of oscillations, the grain diameter, and the Stokes layer.
