Abstract
An airborne coherent Doppler lidar for the retrieval of mesoscale wind fields was developed in the frame of the French-German WIND project. The instrument is based on a pulsed CO2 laser transmitter, heterodyne detection, and a wedge scanner. The performance of the instrument operating on the ground and in an aircraft is presented.
