Born in 1984, Vingtième Siècle's ambition was to open contemporary history to the "present time" (1940 to today), to the renewal of political history and to the concerns (and an audience) not strictly academic. The balance sheet shows that the journal has been the springboard of currents born from the renewal of political history (history of intellectuals, history of institutions and cultural practices, history of political cultures). But the journal suffers from hyper-specialization and is weak in international openings.
