Résumé

A research project supported by the French Ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development has ended in September 2006. The aim was to lead a sensitivity study on the influence of micrometeorology and impedance changes on sound propagation from road, rail and industrial noises. Both experimental and numerical work has been achieved. An important experimentation has been conducted during three months, with roughly one hundred meteorological and acoustical sensors. It has provided a database of reference results in a wide range of meteorological conditions. A large number of calculations have been done using different kinds of models (Parabolic Equation, Ray Tracing). Numerical results enable to study in detail different practical situations. For example, in upward-refracting conditions, the relative influence of turbulence parameters involved in the scattering of sound in the shadow zone was studied. Calculations in downward-refracting conditions have also been done by using ray tracing. All these results are helpful to define a new classification method for calculating and measuring noise levels.
