Résumé

The paper discusses several basic difficulties about the temporal behaviour of ultra wide band antennas operating in pulsed regime, making their design uneasy. Performance indicators are proposed in order to help the designer towards the understanding and the characterisation of the antennas, as well as two definitions of "ideal" antennas which can be useful as references. The temporal behaviours of several typical ultra wide band antennas based on various principles are compared, and show imperfections in the impulse response which can be attributed to the nature of these antennas.
