Résumé
We present a direct experimental evidence that shear bands in metallic glasses can be induced by swift heavy ion irradiation. Transmission electron microscopy micrographs show that shear bands nucleate in the vicinity of the ion paths. Finally, we state that swift heavy-ion irradiation can be used as a nanometer-size probe to test the structural stability of metallic glasses under high local stresses.
