Résumé
To approach materials behavior at high strain rates, Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar method is particularly efficient. For soils, the classical SHPB device has to be adapted. Therefore a special experimental arrangement called "Three-Dimensional Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar " (3D-SHPB) is proposed. It uses a radial bar in contact with the specimen through a rigid confining cylinder, allowing measurement of radial stress with time. It is then possible to study different loading paths in terms of mean stress and deviatone stress. At grain size level, several investigations have been made to elucidate the comminution process.
