Résumé
The electromagnetic interactions between a molecule and a spherical metal particle affect the linear response of the molecule. We present a general method to calculate the effective dynamic polarizability of such physisorbed systems by including the nonlocal character of the electron response in the sphere. Our model takes into account several long-range mechanisms connected to the dispersion, induction and local field effects. When the sphere reduces to a single atom, we recover results already known for a pair of atoms.
