N2 - Emerging Personal Area Networks (PANs) composed of heterogeneous nodes, are expected to make use of their multiple gateways and access interfaces to optimize PAN connectivity and achieve resilience to PAN dynamic changes. NEtwork MObility (NEMO) designed to support PAN and cluster mobility through Mobile Routers experiences large latency and performance degradations during alternate gateway selection and switching. This paper explores the introduction of multihoming capability in PANs and clusters to alleviate the limitations of NEMO while making the multihoming itself as transparent as possible to applications. To enhance performance even further, a virtual interface, to enable the use of multiple egress interfaces in nodes and bridging in intra PAN communications, is combined with NEMO and multihoming. Results on packet loss and latency improvements are reported.
