Résumé
This paper is part of a CNRS research aiming to create a database on the uses of mobile communication devices (phone, PDA, laptops, stereos, reading tools, GPS) and their links with the people's mobility. We focus on a specific population of these devices' users: mobile employees. We analyze the dynamics of ownership of mobile communication technologies and their relation to mobility behaviors. We start from a technical device characterization and a survey of the social science literature on this topic. The qualitative methodology we use is ethnographic; the keeping of "diaries" describing the mobility experience of respondents and their use of mobile communication devices. We deduce several usage scenarios.
