Liquid fuel atomization and heterogeneous combustion of fuel-oxidizer mixtures using nanosecond discharge

Résumé

In this paper the influence of nanosecond discharge on liquid atomization is investigated. During combustion of liquids, three main stages are observed: fuel atomization into drops, mixing of fuel drops with oxidizer and drop vaporization and combustion. The aim of this work is to find mechanisms of these processes rate's increase. Thus we can reduce the time (or effective length) at which complete combustion of mixture occurs. During the first part of the work it was found that nanosecond pulsed discharge affects strongly on the liquid atomization. It's possible to obtain atomization of a flow in the regimes where just a flow exist in absence of the discharge. Conditions of effective influence were found. The influence occurs primarily due to the local overheating of the liquid flow at the sprayer's exit. Diagnostic system for drops' parameters measurement was constructed.
