Numerical investigation of the elastic moduli in an inhomogeneous body

Résumé

In this paper we present a numerical method for the identification of the interior distribution of the elastic moduli in an inhomogeneous body from boundary measurements. We suppose that the body is isotropic and that we dispose of a number of simultaneous displacement and force measurements on the hole boundary. The proposed variational method minimized the error on constitutive law. Numerical results are presented for the determination of a continuous and a discontinuous interior distributions of the Young modulus. The Poisson coefficient was taken constant. The boundary data was provided by numerical simulation and introduction of a uniform noise. The method is found to be generally robust reproducing the general characteristics of the interior distribution.
