Résumé
A coherent superposition of two electronic states E1 and E2 in an asymmetric quantum well was set up to observe mid-infrared pulses to investigate the intersubband relaxations. The corresponding quantum beat between the two states results in an oscillating dipole radiating a mid-infrared wave. This emission is measured by measuring its linear correlation with an ultra-short mid-infrared pulse transmitted through the sample. In addition to coherence relaxation, this technique allows for observation of the population relaxation from the upper level E1 to the lower level E2 in a direct manner.
