Résumé

The spatiotemporal dynamics of the bifurcating transverse modes of a CO₂ laser with saturable absorber is demonstrated to be governed by a complex Swift-Hohenberg equation for the laser field coupled to an ordinary differential equation. Numerical investigations are reported to illustrate the nonlinear spatiotemporal evolution near and beyond threshold.
