Résumé

Temporal and spatial measurements of the electron density perturbation produced in the wake of an ultra-short laser pulse were performed. The experiment used a laser pump beam which is focused into a chamber filled with helium at different pressures. The pump beam completely ionizes the gas near the focus and induces the radial electron density perturbation. A double pulse probe beam is also focused on the same axis, and the density perturbation is measured by the frequency-domain interferometry technique with a spatial resolution in the radial direction much smaller than the pump focal spot radius.
